Week One: Intro to Florals
This week in advanced floral we had an arrangement pretest and a safety test. The pretest tests your knowledge by making you create an arrangement including mass, form, line, greenery, and filler flowers without any prior instruction. The safety test basically ensures you know how to use the processing and floral tools correctly to prevent injuries. This week we had a run down of floral materials and got to use them in our first arrangement.
Week two: History of Floral design
During week two we learned about the history of floral design and created our own floral crowns. The greeks and romans both had their own styles of floral designing. The greeks designed with mostly greenery and the romans designed with flowers and greenery, we had to create our own and I chose to recreate a greek floral crown.
Week three: floral basics
Throughout week three we reviewed the floral basics and made practice corsages and boutonnieres to prep for homecoming week. We had refresher lessons on how to make bows, wire flowers, tape flowers, general structure, and the different kinds of corsages and boutonnieres .
Week four: Design elements
Color theory was the focus for this week. These were our practice designs for our floral club of the month arrangements. Before we made these we learned about the elements of design and for this one in-particular was made with an analogous color scheme.
Week five: Floral club of the month
Our Advanced Floral class sent out an order form for a subscription to our floral club of the month program. You pay $100 to get five floral arrangements across the duration of five months. We sent out our first arrangement this week we created a mound with a complimentary color scheme.
WEEK FIVE: CORSAGES AND BOUTS
Our advanced floral class had also sent out an order form for students to order corsages and boutonnieres at a reasonable price for our homecoming dance. I personally made every bow included in the corsages and many of the boutonnieres.
Week five: Homecoming court
Our advanced floral class also made the boutonnieres and arm sprays for our schools homecoming princesses and princes.
week six: principles of design
This week we were assigned to use all of the leftover flowers from the past couple weeks to create a low horizontal triangle. The flowers I ended up using to create my design were lilies, wax flowers, ranunculus, roses, celosia, solidago, and eucalyptus.
WEEK SEVEN: GIRLS SOCCER SENIOR NIGHT
This week was the Lady Warrior's soccer senior night. We were commissioned to make floral sprays to honor each of the six seniors on the team. These sprays were comprised of bakers fern, tree fern, spray roses, solidago, carnations, and mums.
WEEK EIGHT: FLORAL CLUB OF THE MONTH
This week we made the October arrangement for the six month subscription. These were asymmetrical "L" shaped arrangements. These were very challenging to create due to the thick stems going through at two angles instead of one. These were filler with boxwood, isreali ruscus, bonsai eucalyptus, myrtle, liatrice, mini carnations, gomphrena, and gerber daisies.
WEEK EIGHT: WEDDING CENTER PIECES
This week we also made center pieces for a local wedding. This wedding was a boho 70's theme, so the center pieces had disco ball bases. In these arrangements we used parabola eucalyptus, seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, "hokie" roses, white spray roses, champagne spray roses, scabiosa, millet, cremums, astilbe, gomphrena, limonium, amaranthus, and agonis mellano.
